The Florey Building is a Grade II listed hall of residence designed by James Stirling from 1967. Part of the celebrated Red Trilogy, it enjoys an international profile well beyond its statutory listed status.
I was part of the team at Avanti who developed the concept and produced the material that won an international design competition. The proposal was to upgrade the student accommodation by adjusting the internal layouts creating more efficient layouts with ensuite provision, whilst keeping a conservation-led approach to preserve and minimize changes to the existing structure.
It was delightful to work with the existing structural frame precise and logical geometrical rigor.
